How we work

Your relationship is the client

Our goal is to help the two of you through challenges so the relationship gets stronger and deeper, with each couple’s specific needs in mind. Whether you are dating or have been together for years, we can support you at whatever stage you are in.

It is not our place to decide whether you should stay together, or to point the finger at who is to blame. Instead we look to increase collaboration and move from blame and shame to a place of shared responsibility and humility.

We work under the assumption that your relationship is the client, and work together with you and your partner to create a dynamic you both can feel better about.

How we work with couples

A research-based approach built on four decades of work with real couples. It focuses on communication, managing conflict and deepening intimacy. Our couples therapist has completed Gottman level 3 training.

Not sure which modality fits? How the three differ, and how to choose the right one for what you want to work on.

FAQ

Couples counseling questions

Do we both need to attend?

Yes. Couples therapy works when both partners take part. If one of you is hesitant, an initial conversation with the therapist about what to expect often helps.

It depends on what you are working on. Some couples feel a shift in a few sessions; others meet for several months. Weekly sessions at first are most effective, and then sessions taper.

Coverage depends on your plan. Our intake team verifies benefits before your first session. See our insurance and scheduling page for the plans we are in-network with.
