Getting started

Before your first visit

Is there anything I have to do before my intake?

Before your first appointment is confirmed you will fill out the initial paperwork online. That way our first session goes to the work itself rather than forms.

Our intake forms are sent to you by email. We ask that they are completed before your first appointment.

When you decide you are ready for therapy, you want to start now. We work hard to match clients with clinicians as quickly as possible. The more flexible you can be with appointment times, the sooner we can get you in.

A referral is only needed when your insurance company requires one.

Counseling: many people feel nervous before meeting a new clinician, and that is normal. Therapy is a shared journey; your clinician works with you to set goals and shape what the journey looks like.

PT, OT and speech: your clinician reviews the goals for therapy and may administer any testing or evaluations needed. Once the initial assessment is complete, they develop a treatment plan with you.

Yes, we can treat your child if they are enrolled in a nearby childcare facility.

What is confidentiality?

Confidentiality lets you share your thoughts and feelings in a safe space where private information stays between you and your therapist. There are only three exceptions, which every therapist follows under our code of ethics: an immediate threat of harm to self or others, suspicion of child or elder abuse, and a court subpoena.

The average session lasts forty-five minutes. We also offer 30-minute and 60-minute-plus sessions at adjusted rates.

Most people meet weekly, especially at first; consistency is where therapy is most effective. As clients improve, sessions usually taper to every other week. When weekly sessions are not possible, we build a plan case by case.

It varies from person to person. Some clients feel relief after a couple of sessions; others stay for a year or more. Therapy is not a lifelong commitment. It ends when you feel ready.

We are open six days a week: Monday to Thursday 8:30 to 7, Friday 8:30 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 1. Evening and Saturday availability depends on clinicians’ schedules.

Costs, insurance and cancellations

What insurance plans are you in-network with?

Most major plans, including Aetna, BC/BS, Northshore, Humana, PHCS, TriCare, Unified Physicians, Psychealth and Meridian. See the full list on our insurance and scheduling page, or call the office to ask about yours.

Absolutely. Our insurance and scheduling page covers in-network plans and how to ask about out-of-network or cash rates.

Scheduling an appointment reserves time specifically for you, so we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel. If you know in advance about a conflict, tell us as soon as possible and we will try to find another time. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee.

Telehealth

Online therapy

Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face therapy?

For counseling there is no difference in effectiveness; it comes down to what you feel most comfortable with. For children receiving counseling, PT, OT or speech, online treatment can be effective depending on their ability to focus and take part on screen. Our therapists have built many activities to reach therapeutic goals online in an engaging, playful way.

All of our therapists are required to maintain confidentiality and make sure it is kept on their side. At home, a quiet room with the door closed and headphones goes a long way.
