Emily Filson is passionate about helping youth and families heal from trauma and rebuild their lives with safety, stability, and hope. With a background in psychology, legal studies, and social policy, she brings both compassion and structure to her therapeutic work, helping clients navigate complex emotional and behavioral challenges with empathy and practical support.
Emily has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who have faced significant adversity, including survivors of sexual assault, sex trafficking, abuse, and other traumatic experiences. Before joining the clinical team, Emily served as a Case Manager with Camelot Care Centers, where she supported youth and families in the process of reunification and permanency planning. She collaborated closely with healthcare professionals, legal representatives, and school systems to ensure wraparound support for her clients.
As a therapist with the Lake County Health Department, Emily provides trauma-informed care for individuals struggling with mental health and behavioral issues, with a focus on emotional regulation, resilience, and restoring trust and connection. Her early experience with Heartland Alliance deepened her understanding of the impact of trauma and human trafficking on mental health, and her work across diverse settings has strengthened her ability to meet clients from all walks of life with respect and openness.
Her clinical interests include trauma recovery, child and adolescent development, and working with families impacted by the child welfare system. Emily’s approach is grounded in empathy, safety, and collaboration, helping each client find their voice and move toward growth at their own pace.
