Resourceful Realms
A therapeutic role-playing game experience that increases interpersonal and life skills in a fun, interactive game setting. Role-playing games provide a safe space for players to explore within the game and also within themselves by engaging in skills such as cooperation, collaboration, problem solving, emotional regulation, and executive functioning skills.
What is a Table Top Role-Playing Game (TTRPG)?
A Table Top Role-Playing Game (TTRPG) is a game that can include the virtual or physical elements of a board game where a group of characters works together to complete an adventure. Players have different strengths and abilities which emphasize the element of cooperative play to achieve a common goal. In the game setting, there will be obstacles to overcome, opportunities to work together to face challenges, and rewards based on success.
How are Table Top Role-Playing Games (TTRPG) adapted for therapeutic use?
Table Top Role-Playing Games (TTRPG) are flexible in nature. The game is led by a Game Master (GM) who can adapt the story to anticipate individual players' strengths and challenges to develop interpersonal and social skills that can be generalized for use in the real world.
Why choose Table Top Role Playing Games?
-Problem-solving skills: Playing tabletop roleplaying games is like solving a giant puzzle with your friends. You'll use your brain power to overcome obstacles, find hidden treasures, and battle fearsome beasts.
-Self-regulation: In the game, you'll learn how to keep your cool in the face of danger. You'll need to stay focused, manage your emotions, and make smart decisions.
-Collaboration: You'll be working with your friends to save the world or explore new lands. You'll need to talk to each other, strategize, and work together to defeat your enemies.
-Perspective-taking: In the game, you'll be playing a character with a unique personality and background. You'll need to think about what your character would do in different situations and how they might feel.
-Frustration tolerance: Playing tabletop roleplaying games can be challenging, but that's what makes it so rewarding. You'll learn to bounce back from setbacks, push through obstacles, and keep trying even when things get tough.
Parents should definitely sign their kids up for therapeutic tabletop roleplaying groups because it's a fun and engaging way to learn important life skills. Plus, it's a great way to make new friends and have a blast.
