SPACE: Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions
SPACE is an evidence-based parent program developed at the Yale Child Study Center that helps reduce children’s anxiety symptoms without requiring the child to be in the room. This 8-week group is designed for parents only and focuses on shifting parent responses to create a home environment where kids feel both supported and capable of coping with anxious feelings. As parents are the ones children depend on most day to day, research has demonstrated that parents learning these tools directly makes a big difference in the reduction of their child’s anxiety symptoms.
During each 90-minute session, parents learn new strategies, practice supportive communication, and receive structured guidance to implement at home. Between sessions, families are given practical resources and at-home tasks that build consistency and long-term change.
